At 15:49 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Offshore Lifeboat be launched following a report that a speedboat had capsized off West Portholland in Veryan Bay. It was believed that someone might be trapped under the boat, and the Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat, a Culdrose Helicopter and Portscatho Coastguard Mobile had already been tasked to assist.

The Offshore Lifeboat left her berth at 15:54. At 15:56 it was confirmed that the speedboat had been washed ashore and that the six persons onboard had been accounted for. The Offshore Lifeboat was therefore stood down, but the Inshore Lifeboat continued until the Helicopter confirmed that the assistance of the Inshore Lifeboat was no longer required at 16:06. The Inshore Lifeboat was then released to return to station, while the Helicopter took the 6-year-old child who had been trapped under the boat to hospital for a check-up.

The Offshore Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 15:58, where it was ready for service by 16:05.
