At 15:15 Falmouth Coastguard requested that the Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched following a 999 call from the three occupants of a speed boat, reporting that they were taking water and in danger of sinking. They were unsure of their position but had recently left from the dinghy park in Falmouth.

The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 15:23, commencing its search of the inner harbour. Further information indicated that the casualty might be off Pendennis Point, but as the inshore lifeboat was leaving the harbour at 15:27 the speed boat was located off the Trefusis shoreline in the Carrick Roads. At 15:32 the speed boat had been taken in tow for Falmouth, where it was safely berthed alongside the dinghy park pontoon at 15:44. Once details of the casualties had been obtained the inshore lifeboat was released to return to station at 15:57.

The Inshore Lifeboat was back on its slipway by 16:03 where it was refuelled, and was ready for service by 16:18.

The speed boat had headed out of the harbour but in the prevailing conditions had taken on water causing its occupants to be worried about its stability.
