At 16:44 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched to assist the 17ft Yacht Overdraft with two persons onboard, which had been reported aground on Trefusis Point. Various local vessels were standing by the yacht and trying to assist.

The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 16:49 and arrived on scene at Trefusis Point at 16:52. Both crew were taken off the yacht and one was then returned to the lifeboat station before the Inshore Lifeboat returned to the yacht with its owner. A lifeboatman was then put onboard the yacht before a towline was attached and the yacht was eased off the rocks. It was then towed back to the Port Pendennis Marina where the yacht was safely secured at 17:34.

The Inshore Lifeboat was back on its slipway by 17:40 where it was refuelled, rehoused and was ready for service by 18:00.

The Leisure 17 yacht had been leaving Falmouth to return to its berth in the Gillan Creek in the Helford River when it had got into difficulties. Having motored out of the harbour they had stopped to put up their sails and had got the mainsail jammed. On trying the outboard it failed to start and before they could drop their anchor they found themselves ashore on Tom Browns Rock, which lies off Trefusis Point.
