Boat: Inshore Lifeboat Crew: Dave Nicoll (Helmsman), Marc Thomas, Luke Wills Location: Molunan (Lighthouse) Beach Shout Date: 09/08/2008 - 11:14 Weather:S 6, Rough Sea & Moderate Swell, Good Visibility, Overcast ![]() At 11:08 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched following reports of a 16ft Gaffer ashore at Molunan Beach, just inside St Anthony Lighthouse. The boat and its two occupants were stranded on the beach and unable to relaunch due to the surf running onto the beach. The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 11:14 arriving on scene at Molunan Beach at 11:18. A lifeboat crewman swan ashore to check that the casualties were not injured and to access the situation. It was decided that it would be possible to refloat the vessel and tow it clear of the beach so a towline was passed ashore and connected to the boat. Once the boat had been turned head to sea the casualties and the lifeboatman climbed onboard and at 11:29 the inshore lifeboat reported that the casualty had been successfully recovered through the surf and would be towed back to Mylor. In view of the prevailing conditions and the fact that the casualty was an open boat, it was towed towards Pendennis Headland to obtain a lee before heading across to Trefusis and onto Mylor Harbour. At 12:15 the boat was safely delivered to the harbour slipway where its owners were able to recover it back onto its trailer. The Inshore Lifeboat was back on its slipway by 12:27 where it was refuelled, rehoused and was ready for service by 12:45. The couple had beached their boat at Lighthouse Beach and set-up their tent for the night. The next morning as conditions deteriorated they had tried to motor clear of the beach but had failed due to the prevailing conditions and surf, which swamped their boat.
