Boat: Inshore Lifeboat Crew: Dave Nicoll (Helmsman), Oliver Lewis, Tom Bird Location: Off Pencabe Point, Portscatho Shout Date: 03/08/2009 - 16:29 Weather:S 5, Moderate Sea & Swell, Good Visibility, Sunny Periods At 16:24 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched following reports that a small inflatable dinghy with three youngsters onboard was broken down and drifting off Pencabe Point near Portscatho. The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her from her slipway at 16:29 headed around Zone Point and up to the east arriving off Portscatho at 16:45. Once on scene it was found that one of the local auxiliary Coastguard team had gone out to the casualty in his boat and towed them back into the harbour. The Inshore Lifeboat crew went ashore and obtained the youths details before talking to them about sea safety. Once this was complete at 17:05 the Inshore Lifeboat was released to return to its station. The Inshore Lifeboat was back on its slipway by 17:25 where it was refuelled, rehoused and was ready for service by 17:40. The three youths were down on holiday and had taken their 10ft Inflatable Dinghy out for a trip with very limited safety equipment, no means of communication and had then run out of fuel. The Inshore Lifeboat crew highlighted their failings and a big lesson has hopefully been learned.
