Boat: Inshore Lifeboat Crew: Dave Nicoll (Helmsman), Alistair Heane, Oliver Lewis Location: Rosemullion Head Shout Date: 16/06/2008 (All day) Weather:N 5, Moderate Sea & Slight Swell, Good Visibility, Sunny Periods At 17:14 Falmouth Coastguard requested that the Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched following a 999 call from the two occupants of an 18ft Ski Boat, which had broken down and was in danger of drifting ashore. The initial position given was between Swanpool and Pennance Point. The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 17:20 and arrived off Swanpool Beach at 17:27. An initial search of the area found nothing and the search was then expanded towards Maenporth. Eventually a small boat was spotted off Rosemullion Head, and the Inshore Lifeboat arrived on scene at 17:32. An anchor had been deployed that was holding the ski boat about 50ft off the rocks. A lifeboat crewman was placed onboard the Ski Boat and a towline attached so that the weight could be taken off the anchor line. By 17:40 the anchor had been recovered and the boat was being towed back towards Falmouth. The Ski Boat was safely moored at its berth in Falmouth Marina by 18:29. The Inshore Lifeboat was back on its slipway by 18:50 where it was refuelled, rehoused and was ready for service by 19:05. The 18ft Ski Boat had an inboard engine, which had suffered some form of electrical failure. Being on a lee shore its occupants had deployed their anchor and wisely called for assistance.
