At 01:55 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat be launched to assist the search for a person reported in the water off the Prince of Wales Pier. The Police had contacted the Coastguard after they had been chased a Royal Marine following an incident in the town and he had jumped into the harbour. They believed he might be trying to swim back to his ship, RFA Argus, but had lost sight of him and were concerned for his safety. The Inshore Lifeboat, lifeboat boarding boat and Coastguard Mobile had already been searching for 40 minutes but had failed to find the missing person, so the assistance of the all-weather lifeboat and helicopter had been requested.

The All Weather Lifeboat left her berth at 02:07 and commenced a search of the harbour at 02:09. At 02:54 the Inshore Lifeboat located the missing person onboard a boat in the harbour, but requested that the all-weather lifeboat proceed to the RFA Argus to collect some of his fellow Royal Marines, in case they were required to help persuade the casualty to leave the boat. At 03:14 the casualty was onboard the Inshore Lifeboat and he was taken to the All-weather Lifeboat where he was treated for the effects of cold, and talked to by his colleagues. He was then taken back to the lifeboat station where he was landed at 03:23. After being interviewed by the police he was escorted back to his ship by his fellow Royal Marines to be dealt with at a later date.

The All Weather Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 03:23, where it was ready for service by 03:35.
