At 15:44 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Offshore Lifeboat be launched to assist in the search for a missing person from a capsized canoe in the Carrick Roads. The Inshore Lifeboat had been initially launched at 15:29 to investigate the canoe, which had been found off Mylor by a passing yacht. But as soon as the Inshore Lifeboat was on scene they had requested the assistance of the Offshore Lifeboat and a Rescue Helicopter in view of the area which required searching.

The Offshore Lifeboat left her berth at 15:54 and arrived on scene at 15:58. Once on scene the lifeboat launched its Y-Boat to assist in the search. Both the Offshore and Inshore Lifeboats, the Y-Boat, a Rescue Helicopter, and two Coastguard Teams carried out a comprehensive search of the Carrick Roads and the River Fal but sadly no sign of the casualty could be found and as the light started to fade the search was terminated, with a low water search planned for the following day. The Offshore Lifeboat was released to return to station at 18:10.

The Offshore Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 18:25, where it was ready for service by 18:40.
