At 12:20 Falmouth Coastguard contacted the Lifeboat Operation Manager of Falmouth Lifeboat Station to request that the Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched later in the afternoon on the rising tide to assist in the search for a missing person in the upper reaches of the Truro and Tresillian Rivers. An extensive land based search had already been going on since the previous evening involving the Police, Coastguards, and Cornwall Sea & Rescue Team, including the use of the police helicopter and a rescue helicopter from RNAS Culdrose.

The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 15:35 and headed up the River Fal. The search was started above the King Harry Ferry at 15:55, initially searching up to Malpas and then up the Truro River to Boscawen Park. The inshore lifeboat then returned to Malpas before preceded up the Tresillian River past Saint Clement to Tresemple Pond. At 17:40 with darkness falling and the tide having turned the search was called off and the inshore lifeboat was released to return to station.

The Inshore Lifeboat was back on its slipway by 18:25 where it was refuelled, and was ready for service by 18:54.

Despite an extensive, land, air and sea search, no sign of the missing person has been found and there are now grave concerns for his well being.
