Boat: Inshore Lifeboat Crew: Dave Nicoll (Helmsman), Andy Jenkin, Tom Napper Location: Foreshore between Flushing and Mylor Harbour Shout Date: 26/05/2008 - 21:12 Weather:SE 5, Moderate Sea & Swell, Good Visibility, Overcast ![]() At 21:06 Falmouth Coastguard requested that the Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched to assist the police in a search for a missing person between Flushing and Mylor Harbour. Falmouth Coastguard Mobile and Cliff Rescue Team were also tasked to assist, along with a Helicopter from RNAS Culdrose, Police Units and the Cornwall Rescue Group. The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 21:12 and headed over to Kiln Quay where they met up with the police officer in charge of the search. Following a short briefing it was decided to initially concentrate the search between Kiln Quay and Penarrow Point following a recent possible sighting of the missing person in the Trefusis Point area. An extensive search of the coastline and foreshore was carried out using the Inshore Lifeboats new thermal imaging camera and night sight equipment, working closely with the various Coastguard search teams. At 00:03 the search was terminated with nothing having being found, it being agreed that the police would review the situation at first light. The Inshore Lifeboat was back on its slipway by 00:12 where it was refuelled, rehoused and was ready for service by 00:35. Information obtained by the police had meant that the size of the search area was quite well defined and could be covered by the units deployed. The new hand held thermal imaging camera carried on the inshore lifeboat had proved invaluable and will greatly help with searches of this type in the future.
