Boat: All Weather Lifeboat Crew: Mark Pollard (Coxswain), David Proud, Alan Rowe, Alistair Heane, Mark Waters, Diane Bush, Tom Napper, Luke Wills Location: Off Pendennis Point Shout Date: 01/11/2005 (All day) Weather:SSW 8, Rough Sea, Good Visibility, Sunny Periods At 16:50 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore and All Weather Lifeboats be launched when a Kayaker was reported missing in deteriorating weather conditions. The Kayaker had last been seen between Pendennis Point and St Anthony Lighthouse in heavy seas. The weather was due to reach storm force conditions and there were grave concerns for the Kayakers safety. A Rescue Helicopter from RNAS Culdrose and Coastguard teams from Falmouth and Portscatho were also tasked to assist in the search. The All Weather Lifeboat left its berth at 17:03 to join the Inshore Lifeboat, which had launched at 16:57. As the light faded and the weather conditions deteriorated further it was decided for safety reasons that the Inshore Lifeboat should join the All Weather Lifeboat for the rest of the search which was then extended to the Carrick Roads and in particular the Trefusis shoreline. At 17:53 just as the lifeboats were commencing their search of the Trefusis shoreline, the coastguard advised that the Kayaker had contacted them to confirm that he had in fact made it safely ashore. All the search units were advised and the lifeboats were released to return to station. The All Weather Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 18:05, where it was ready for service by 18:20.
