Boat: Inshore Lifeboat Crew: Dave Nicoll (Helmsman), Mark Waters, Marc Thomas Location: Off Porthcurnick Beach, Portscatho Shout Date: 24/08/2000 (All day) Weather:E 5-6, Rough Sea, Fair Visibility, Sunny At 10:13 Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat was launched by Falmouth following a report from a member of the public, that a small rowing boat with two people onboard was in difficulties in adverse weather conditions off Porthcurnick Beach, near Portscatho. Portscatho Coastguard Mobile was also dispatched to a high vantagepoint to guide to keep the casualty under observation. The Inshore Lifeboat arrived on scene at 10:24, and with assistance from the Coastguard Mobile, they located the 14ft boat ""Western Lass"" 1= miles Southeast of Portscatho at 10:32. The two people onboard reported that they were not in difficulties and were heading round St Anthony Lighthouse to the Percuil River. As it could not be confirmed that this was the boat observed from the shore, the Inshore Lifeboat commenced a search of the area, assisted by the Rescue Helicopter from Culdrose which had been diverted from exercise at 10:35. No other boats were located in the area and at 10:58 Falmouth Coastguard received a report confirming that the ""Western Lass"" had been off Porthcurnick Beach at the time of the initial report. In view of the sea conditions the Inshore Lifeboat returned to the ""Western Lass"" and continued to escort her until she was safely passed St Anthony Lighthouse and into more sheltered waters at 11:25. The Inshore Lifeboat was back on its slipway by 11:36, where it was refuelled and ready for service by 11:50.
