Boat: All Weather Lifeboat Crew: Alan Barnes (Coxswain), John Murray, Dave Nicoll, John Blakeston, Mark Pollard, Carl Beardmore, Alistair Heane Location: 1 mile NE of Black Head Shout Date: 16/03/2003 (All day) Weather:SE 6, Rough Sea, Good Visibility, Sunny "At 10:24 while on exercise, Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Offshore Lifeboat proceed to assist the 9m RIB Rage which was on passage from St Ives to Falmouth with three persons onboard and was concerned that it was running low on fuel in the adverse weather conditions. The Offshore Lifeboat rendezvoused with the RIB off the Manacle Buoy at 10:42 and escorted it back towards Falmouth. At 11:15 just as they were passing the Governor Buoy at the entrance to the harbour, the crew indicated that they had a medical problem onboard. The RIB was brought alongside the lifeboat, and two crewmembers boarded the RIB to render first aid. It soon became apparent that the casualty had stopped breathing and the two crewmen immediately started to try and resuscitate the casualty, assisted a third crewmember. The Coxswain contacted the Coastguard and requested further medical assistance and continued to tow the RIB towards the lifeboat station. At 11:26 the lifeboat and RIB arrived at the lifeboats pontoon berth, where ambulance paramedics were waiting. The lifeboat crew and ambulance paramedics continued in their attempts to resuscitate the casualty and at 11:40 the Air Ambulance landed on the County Wharf in Falmouth Docks. The RIB was taken across to the docks where the casualty was transferred to the Helicopter, which took off at 11:48 for the short journey to Treliske Hospital. Sadly despite everyones efforts, all attempts to revive the casualty failed."
