Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat was on exercise in Falmouth Bay with the All Weather Lifeboat when at 20:06 Falmouth Coastguard requested that the Inshore Lifeboat proceed to search Falmouth Harbour and Penryn River following a number of reports of a Red Flare being fired in that area.

The Inshore Lifeboat commenced its search at Greenbank at 20:11, covering the Penryn River up to Coastlines Wharf, and then the Flushing shoreline. The All Weather lifeboat and Helicopter were also tasked to assist at 20:15 along with the Falmouth Coastguard Cliff Team and Mobile carrying out a shore based search.

The search was called off at 20:54 when additional information indicated that the flare had been fired from the shore. The Inshore and All Weather Lifeboats continued their exercise returning to station at 21:30.
