Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat which was on exercise in Falmouth Bay at 20:15 with a Helicopter from RNAS Culdrose when Falmouth Coastguard requested that the All Weather Lifeboat and Helicopter join the Inshore Lifeboat in a search of the Falmouth Harbour and Penryn River following a number of reports of a Red Flare being fired in that area.

Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat commenced its search of the Trefusis Point and Docks area at 20:22. The Inshore Lifeboat searching the Inner Harbour and Penryn River, and Falmouth Coastguard Cliff Team and Mobile carrying out a shore based search.

The search was called off at 20:54 when additional information indicated that the flare had been fired from the shore. The All Weather Lifeboat and Inshore Lifeboat once released continued their exercise returning to station at 21:30.
