At 21:14 Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat was on exercise in the Carrick Roads when Falmouth Coastguard reported that they had received a report of a Red Flare sighted over Falmouth Bay, and requested that the Inshore Lifeboat carryout a search of the area.

The Inshore Lifeboat carried out a search of the area as instructed by the Coastguard, but found nothing and at 21:35 the boat was released to return to station.

The Inshore Lifeboat was back on its slipway by 21:46 where it was refuelled, rehoused and was ready for service by 22:01.

The Red Flare had been sighted from inland by one of the Coastguard Rescue team, and despite the search by the inshore lifeboat and other vessels in the vicinity nothing was found.
