Boat: Inshore Lifeboat Crew: Dave Nicoll (Helmsman), Oliver Lewis, Tom Bird Location: Off High Cliff, near Maenporth Shout Date: 13/05/2008 (All day) Weather:SE 4, Slight Sea & Moderate Swell, Good Visibility, Sunny Periods Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat was carrying out an exercise with a Merlin helicopter from 824 Squadron at RNAS Culdrose, when at 18:24 Falmouth Coastguard requested that the inshore Lifeboat investigate an object reported in the water off High Cliff, near Maenporth. The Inshore Lifeboat, which was exercising in the Carrick Roads, recovered its crewman and at 18:29 headed across Falmouth Bay to the reported position. At 18:34 shortly after arriving on scene the inshore lifeboat crew located a fully inflated lifejacket floating on the surface accompanied by various other debris. A thorough search of the area was carried out but no other items were found which would indicate the loss of a vessel or similar incident, so at 18:48 the inshore lifeboat was released to return to its helicopter exercise. With out additional information or reports of any overdue vessel the Coastguard considered that any further action would not be of any benefit. It is believed that the lifejacket may have been lost by another vessel and not been reported.
