Boat: Inshore Lifeboat Crew: Dave Nicoll (Helmsman), Oliver Lewis, Jonathon Hackwell Location: Off Discovery Quay in Falmouth Harbour Shout Date: 13/01/2008 (All day) Weather:S 4, Slight Sea & Swell, Fair Visibility, Overcast with Rain At 16:43 Falmouth Coastguard requested that the Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched following a request for assistance from the Cornwall Fire Brigade who were attending a report of a Motor Yacht on fire off Discovery Quay. The harbour authorities had also been advised and had tasked their harbour launch Killegrew to attend. The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 16:49 and proceeded to Port Pendennis Marina, which is adjacent to Discovery Quay. At 16:51 they liased with the Fire Brigade who were already in attendance on the pontoon and it was soon became apparent that it was a false alarm, the smoke having come from the Motor Yacht Carambas whose engines were being run up by its owner. The Inshore Lifeboat was back on its slipway by 17:02 where it was refuelled, and was ready for service by 17:08. The Caramba is a 63ft Classic Gentlemans Motor Yacht built in Cowes, Isle of Wight in 1963 by Samuel White & Company. She is usually moored at Port Pendennis Marina and her twin 127hp Gardner Diesel Engines are well known to smoke a little when initially started.
