At 13:40 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat be launched following a call from the skipper of a yacht reporting that he had seen a human hand in the water off Dennis Head in the Helford River.

The All Weather Lifeboat left her berth at 13:55 and arrived on scene at 14:12. A comprehensive search was commenced and the inflatable Y-Boat carried onboard the All Weather Lifeboat was launched to assist in the search. Coastguard search teams carried out a visual search from the cliff tops. Eventually at 17:25 the search was called off and search units were stood down. Nothing was found, despite the yachts skipper giving a very detailed and precise location and description. The matter was therefore handed over to the police.

The All Weather Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 17:50, where it was ready for service by 18:15.
