Falmouth Severn Class All Weather Lifeboat - RNLB Richard Cox Scott (17-29)

At 18:07 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat be launched following reports of a fire onboard the 183m Liberian Tanker MV Perka, which was at anchor in Falmouth Bay. The Pilot Boat Arrow was also tasked to attend on behalf of the Harbour Master.

Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat left its pontoon berth at 18:15 and heading out into the bay. At 18:32 the Coastguard reported that they had made contact with the vessel, which was able to confirm the fire was out and that no further assistance was required. In view of this information the lifeboat was stood down to return to station, while the Pilot Boat Arrow continued to proceed to the vessel to carry out checks on behalf of the Harbour Master.

The All Weather Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 18:48. The lifeboat was then refuelled, and was ready for service by 19:00.

The Coastguard had observed the fire from their operations room on Pendennis Point and had made a number of attempts to contact the vessel. Once contact was eventually made the master of the vessel confirmed that their garbage storage area on the stern had caught fire, but had been brought under control and extinguished by the crew and no further assistance was required.
