Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat was launched at 18:44 after a yacht reported to Falmouth Coastguard that they had sighting a Red Flare from a small boat off St Just Creek, in the Carrick Roads. A number of other boats including the Harbour Launch Killigrew also proceeded to assist.

When the Inshore Lifeboat arrived on scene at 18:48, the Harbour Launch Killigrew was already alongside the 14ft Orkney Hire Boat Gull. The boat which had four people onboard, two adults and two children, had suffered engine failure and was taken in tow by the Inshore Lifeboat. By 19:15 the boat had been safely returned to Mylor Yacht Harbour and the Inshore Lifeboat was released to return to station.

The Inshore Lifeboat returned to station at 19:25, where it was refuelled and ready for service by 19:40.
