Boat: Inshore Lifeboat Crew: Dave Nicoll (Helmsman), Marc Thomas, Luke Wills Location: Middle Point, Pendennis Headland Shout Date: 10/06/2008 (All day) Weather:N 7, Rough Sea & Moderate Swell, Good Visibility, Sunny Periods At 18:54 Falmouth Coastguard requested that the Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched following a Mayday Call from the racing yacht Sword that had run aground at Middle Point on the Pendennis Headland. The Falmouth Coastguard Mobile and Pilot Boat Arrow were also tasked to assist. The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 19:00 and headed around the Eastern Arm of the Docks. On arriving on scene at 19:03 it was found that the safety boat from the sailing club had managed to get a line onboard the yacht and was in the process of towing it off. At this stage both the inshore lifeboat crew and the pilot boat spotted another yacht going ashore near Crab Quay on Pendennis Point and at 19:04 both vessels proceeded to assist try and assist. At the same time the yacht Incite reported its predicament to Falmouth Coastguard on Channel 16. The 24ft racing yacht Sword, a Hunter 707 which had four crew onboard, had got into difficulties while racing in what could only be considered to be marginal conditions. Although the boat was towed off successfully it is likely to have suffered considerable damage to the hull.
