Boat: All Weather Lifeboat Crew: Alan Barnes (Coxswain), David Proud, Phil Rogers, Marc Thomas, Alistair Heane, Neil McClarity, Tom Bird, Diane Bush Location: Near wreck of the Ben Asdale, at Maenporth Beach Shout Date: 08/11/2003 (All day) Weather:SE 7, Very Rough Sea, Good Visibility, Sunny At 12:14 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched following a report of two persons cut off by the tide near the wreck of the Ben Asdale at Maenporth Beach. In view of the heavy south-easterly swell running in Falmouth Bay it was decided to launch the Offshore Lifeboat to provide back up if required. Falmouth Coastguard Mobile and Cliff Team were also tasked to assist. The Offshore Lifeboat left her berth at 12:25 and having cleared Pendennis Point made best possible speed across the bay in the 5 to 6m seas. The Inshore Lifeboat arrived on scene at 12:30 and from 100m offshore they managed to locate the casualties on a ledge well above the breaking seas. In view of the extreme sea conditions close inshore and the fact that the casualties were in no immediate danger the Inshore Lifeboat moved to a position 250m offshore. At 12:40 the Offshore Lifeboat arrived on scene and in view of the prevailing conditions it was decided that the Inshore Lifeboat could be released to return to station, while the Offshore Lifeboat stood off to provide safety cover. The cliff team managed to reach the casualties at 12:57, and once they had both been recovered safely at 13:05 the Offshore Lifeboat was released to return to station. The Offshore Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 13:20, where it was ready for service by 13:40.
