Boat: Inshore Lifeboat Crew: Dave Nicoll (Helmsman), Marc Thomas, Oliver Lewis Location: Off St Mawes Harbour Shout Date: 28/08/2008 - 01:13 Weather:SW 2, Slight Sea & Swell, Moderate Visibility, Overcast with Drizzle ![]() At 01:07 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched to assist in the evacuation of the skipper of the Yacht Pura Vida who had been taken ill whilst on a visitors mooring off St Mawes. The Portscatho Coastguard Mobile and an Ambulance were also tasked to assist. The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 01:13 and was alongside the 49ft yacht at 01:21. Two lifeboat crew went onboard the yacht to assess the casualties condition, while the helmsman took the inshore lifeboat to St Mawes Harbour to await the ambulance. On their arrival the ambulance crew were taken out to the yacht to give further medical attention. By 01:55 the caualties condition had improved considerably and it was decided that their was no requirement for hospitalisation, but that it would be wise if the yacht returned to its marina berth at Port Pendennis just in case the situation later changed. At 02:10, once the ambulance crew had been returned ashore, the yacht dropped its mooring and headed to Falmouth with the lifeboatmen remaining onboard to assist. The yacht was safely moored up at its berth in Port Pendennis Marina at 02:42, the inshore lifeboat being released to return to station. The Inshore Lifeboat was back on its slipway by 02:48 where it was refuelled, rehoused and was ready for service by 03:05. The skipper of the yacht had recently been in hospital, and when he suddenly fell ill his wife became obviously concerned, especially as they had a young child onboard. Thankfully the situation did not prove to be as serious as first thought and the skipper was able to remain on the yacht, but the initial decision to request assistance was certainly very sensible and wise move.
