Boat: Inshore Lifeboat Crew: Oliver Lewis (Helmsman), Luke Wills, Diane Bush Location: Loe Beach, Carrick Roads Shout Date: 11/02/2009 - 13:26 Weather:NW 4, Slight Sea & Swell, Good Visibility, Sunny Periods ![]() At 13:21 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched following reports of a person falling overboard from a boat, which was going around in circles off Loe Beach. Falmouth Coastguard Mobile was also tasked to assist. The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 13:26 and headed up the Carrick Roads to Loe Beach where they arrived on scene at 13:32. Luckily the person involved had by that time been assisted ashore and the boat had run aground. The Inshore Lifeboat crew checked the casualties condition and while he had not suffered any major injuries, transport was arranged to take him to hospital as he had been in the water for a considerable time, had swallowed a quantity of seawater and was starting to suffer from the effects of hypothermia. The crew then assisted in recovering the boat back to Loe Beach, before being released to return to station at 14:02. The Inshore Lifeboat was back on its slipway by 14:16 where it was refuelled, rehoused and was ready for service by 14:31. The semi rigid inflatable with an outboard had been used for a trip up the River Fal, and had just returned to Loe Beach to drop off its occupants. It was then taken for a quick run by before it was recovered and during a sharp turn its single occupant was thrown overboard. As a kill cord was not fitted it continued to circle the casualty, but luckily did not hit him, otherwise the outcome could have been very different.
