Boat: Inshore Lifeboat Crew: Dave Nicoll (Helmsman), Tom Bird, Gemma Royston Location: Portscatho Shout Date: 31/08/2011 - 16:31 Weather:SE 6, Heavy Sea and Moderate Swell, Good Visibility, Sunny Periods ![]() At 16:26 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched following reports of a person in difficulties in the water 100m from the shore at Portscatho. A Rescue Helicopter from RNAS Culdrose and the Portscatho Coastguard Cliff Rescue Team were also tasked to assist. The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 16:31 and having rounded Zone Point headed up to the east making best possible speed in the prevailing sea conditions. The helicopter arrived on scene at 16:45 followed shortly afterwards by the Inshore Lifeboat at 16:48. It was very quickly established by the members of the Coastguard Cliff Rescue Team that the person involved had managed to swim ashore and did not need any medical attention so all the units were released to return to their stations at 16:50. The Inshore Lifeboat was back on its slipway by 17:08 but before it could be rehoused Falmouth Coastguard requested at 17:09 that the Inshore Lifeboat re-launch to attend another incident. It appears that the person who had been in the water had gone out to his yacht in a tender to check it due to the deteriorating sea conditions but had fallen in the water as he tried to board the yacht and had been unable to get back into the tender. He had managed to swim back to the shore but considering he is believed to have not been wearing a lifejacket and the prevailing weather conditions he is lucky to have made it safely.
