Boat: Inshore Lifeboat Crew: Luke Wills (Helmsman), Oliver Lewis, Steve Bond Location: King Harry Reach, River Fal Shout Date: 20/07/2009 - 17:56 Weather:W 2, Slight Sea & Swell, Good Visibility, Sunny Periods ![]() At 17:50 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched following a report of a person in the water just upstream of the King Harry Ferry on the Trelissick side. Police and Ambulance were already reported to be proceeding. The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her from her slipway at 17:56 and arrived off the King Harry Slipway at 18:05. It was soon apparent that the incident was further upstream and once on scene the lifeboat crew could see a policeman on the shoreline trying to resuscitate the casualty. Two lifeboat crew were immediately landed ashore to assist while the Inshore Lifeboat headed back towards the slipway to collect the Paramedics who by this time were being brought to the scene onboard a small dinghy. The Paramedics having been transferred ashore carried out a quick assessment of the situation and decided that the casualty should be evacuated as quickly as possible to the slipway where the ambulance was waiting and additional medical equipment would be available. The casualty was placed onboard the lifeboat and attempts to resuscitate the casualty continued during the short journey back to the slipway. Once in the ambulance the resuscitation attempts continued during the journey to Treliske Hospital but sadly despite everyones efforts the casualty did not survive. Once the ambulance had departed the slipway the Inshore Lifeboat returned to collect all its medical equipment and to talk to all those concerned to try and build a picture of what had happened. At 19:37 the inshore lifeboat was released to return to station. The Inshore Lifeboat was back alongside the lifeboat pontoon by 19:58 where it was refuelled and made ready for service by 20:25. The lady who sadly died was a Brazilian national who had only recently been married and was out walking with her husband when she had left the path and is presumed to have slipped down the steep slope leading to the waters edge.
