Boat: All Weather Lifeboat Crew: Coxswain:Alan Barnes Crew:Peter Wood, Tim Julian, John Murray, Snowy Angove Location: Between Flushing and Kiln Quay Shout Date: 24/01/2003 (All day) Weather:W 2, Slight Sea, Good Visibility, Partly Cloudy At 17:18 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Offshore Lifeboat be launched to assist with an incident in the Falmouth Harbour. Shortly before at 17:08 the Inshore Lifeboat had been launched following a report of a person in the water off the Salt & Pepper House between Flushing and Kiln Quay. The Inshore Lifeboat crew had found that the person had climbed onboard a yacht and when they approached they became aware that the person was in possession of a firearm and the Inshore Lifeboat withdrew to a safe distance. Once on scene the Offshore Lifeboat was requested to stand off at a safe distance and observe, a task made more difficult by the fading light. Sadly later that evening the person involved was found to have hanged themselves from the mast of the yacht. Those involved in this tragic incident are deeply saddened by its outcome and their thoughts go out to the family of the person involved.
