Boat: Inshore Lifeboat Crew: Dave Nicoll (Helmsman), Tom Bird, Oliver Lewis, Luke Wills Location: Carrick Roads Shout Date: 29/07/2007 (All day) Weather:N 3, Slight Sea and Swell, Good Visibility, Sunny Periods Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat was attending the Maenporth RNLI Fun Day when at 15:46 Falmouth Coastguard requested that the Inshore Lifeboat proceed to the assist the skipper of the Yacht Aria who had suffered a badly dislocated arm. The Inshore Lifeboat recovered its anchor and departed Maenporth Beach at 15:48. The yacht was soon located on the east side of the Carrick Roads above Messack Point at 15:58. Two first aiders were put onboard the yacht to assess the casualties condition and it was decided that it was best to leave the skipper in the cockpit of the yacht and to tow it to Restronguet Creek where she could be berthed alongside at the Pandora Inn. The tow was commenced at 16:03 and by 16:22 the yacht was safely berthed alongside the pubs pontoon awaiting the arrival of the ambulance. As soon as the ambulance and paramedics arrived they assessed the casualties condition and it was decided to transfer him ashore using a stretcher. By 16:45 the casualty was in the ambulance and on his way to Treliske Hospital for treatment. The Inshore Lifeboat crew then assisted the skippers wife in placing the yacht on its mooring in the Restronguet Creek before dropping her ashore. At 17:02 the Inshore Lifeboat was released to return to station. The Inshore Lifeboat was back on its slipway by 17:17 where it was refuelled, and was ready for service by 17:35. The skipper had suffered a similar dislocation on a number of occasions in the past, the original injury dating back to an injury incurred when playing rugby. He had been in severe pain and his wife had limited knowledge on how to get the yacht back to its mooring without assistance.
