The lifeboat crew had just completed changing over equipment to a relief lifeboat so that the station lifeboat could go away for maintenance work, when at 17:45 Falmouth Coastguard requested assistance in recovering a person cut off by the tide near the wreck of the Ben Asdale at Maenporth Beach.

The All Weather Lifeboat left her berth at 17:47 and arrived on scene at 17:58. The Coastguard Mobile and cliff team were already on scene and the lifeboats small inflatable Y-Boat was launched to recover the casualty and his bicycle, along with members of the cliff rescue team. All the casualties were safely landed at Maenporth Beach before the Lifeboat was released to return to station at 18:20.

The All Weather Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 18:35, where it was ready for service by 18:50.
