At 14:21 Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat was just launching to attend the annual 999 Emergency Services Day at Events Square when Falmouth Coastguard requested that the Inshore Lifeboat proceed to assist the 15ft Open Boat Taka, with two persons onboard that had made a 999 call reporting that she was broken down 40m off St Anthony Lighthouse.

The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 14:22 and headed out of the harbour arriving on scene off St Anthony at 14:29. A tow line was passed to the boat and she was taken in tow back to Falmouth, where she was dropped off at the dinghy park at 15:11, watch by the crowd that were eagerly awaiting the Inshore Lifeboats return.

The Inshore Lifeboat crew then carried out their Search and Rescue demonstration all be it a little later than planned.

The Taka had been out for a days fishing when the propeller of the main outboard had managed to come into contact with the propeller of the auxiliary outboard. This had not only disabled their main method of propulsion but had also prevented them from using their backup, leaving them no alternative than to call for assistance.
