Boat: Inshore Lifeboat Crew: Dave Nicoll (Helmsman), Tom Bird, Claire Angove Location: Off Durgan in the Helford River Shout Date: 01/02/2010 - 09:11 Weather:NE 4, Slight Sea & Swell, Good Visibility, Sunny with Heavy Frost ![]() At 09:05 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched following reports of an open boat adrift in the Helford River. The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 09:11 and arrived on scene off Durgan in the Helford River at 09:20. A Dory was located in the middle of the river, it had no engine or oars and was full of water and had a thick layer of ice indicating that it had not been recently occupied. It was towed up to the Helford River Sailing Club pontoons where it was safely moored at 09:43, the Inshore Lifeboat then being released to return to its exercise. The 10ft Dory was named J D & Coke and appeared to have floated off during the recent spring tides. Considering its name it was quite appropriate to be full of ice. The Inshore Lifeboat was back on its slipway by 10:05 where it was refuelled, rehoused and was ready for service by 10:21.
