At 16:59 Falmouth Offshore Lifeboat was launched by Falmouth Coastguard to assist in the recovery of the unmanned 36ft Motor Cruiser ""Captains Rook"" which had been driven ashore on Summer Beach, at St Mawes in adverse weather conditions. Portscatho Coastguard Mobile was also on scene.

The Offshore Lifeboat arrived on scene at 17:05 and having assessed the situation, the lifeboats anchor was dropped before an attempt was made to veer a tow line into the shore. Due to the location of the casualty and the adverse weather conditions, this proved impossible and at 17:20 sadly the decision had to be made to leave the boat to the mercy of the elements.

At 17:25 Offshore Lifeboat was released to return to station.

The Offshore Lifeboat was back at its berth at the station at 17:45, where it was refuelled and ready for service by 18:00.
