Boat: All Weather Lifeboat Crew: Mark Pollard (Coxswain), David Proud, Snowy Angove, Alan Rowe, Alistair Heane, Andy Jenkin, Luke Wills Location: 2 miles South of Dodman Point Shout Date: 13/04/2009 - 12:03 Weather:S 6, Rough Sea & Moderate Swell, Fair Visibility, Overcast with Heavy Rain ![]() At 11:52 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat be launched following a VHF call from the 38ft Motor Boat Storm Vulcan reporting that she was 2 miles South of Dodman Point, had lost the use of one of her engines and was having difficulties making headway in the prevailing sea conditions. Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat left its pontoon berth at 12:03 and having rounded Zone Point headed east arriving on scene at 12:32. Having discussed the situation with the skipper the lifeboat agreed to initially escort the vessel towards Falmouth, but with the vessel only making four knots and rolling heavily in the prevailing sea conditions it was soon agreed that it would be better if the lifeboat took the casualty in tow. Once the tow was established the lifeboat and tow were able to maintain a steady speed of seven knots arriving at Mylor Harbour at 14:25. Once the vessel was safely moored up the lifeboat was released to return to station at 14:35. The All Weather Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 14:50. The lifeboat was then refuelled, and was ready for service by 15:05. The Storm Vulcan with four persons onboard had been on passage from Fowey to Falmouth when it had developed engine problems.
