At 15:48 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Offshore Lifeboat be launched to assist two boats, which had reported being broken down 3 miles South East of Falmouth. The 22ft Motor Boat Sarah Elizabeth with two persons onboard had suffered engine and steering failure, while the 27ft Fishing Boat Sweet Promise, with three persons onboard had suffered failure of its drive shaft.

The Offshore Lifeboat left her berth at 16:02 arriving on scene with the Sarah Elizabeth at 16:29. Once the first tow had been connected the Offshore Lifeboat proceeded to the other casualty, which was about half a mile away and at 16:40 the Sweet Promise was also taken in tow. The Offshore Lifeboat started the journey back towards Falmouth, but at 16:45 the lifeboat requested that the Inshore Lifeboat be launched to take over the of the Sarah Elizabeth so that she could be towed up the River Fal to her moorings off Malpas. At 17:11 the Inshore Lifeboat took over the tow, and the Offshore Lifeboat continued towards Falmouth Marina where the Sweet Promise was safely berthed at 17:45.

The Offshore Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 18:11, where it was refuelled and ready for service by 18:26.
