Boat: All Weather Lifeboat Crew: Snowy Angove (Coxswain), David Proud, Dave Nicoll, John Blakeston, Nick Lewis, Phil Rogers, Andy Jenkins Location: St Mawes Beach Shout Date: 04/08/2005 (All day) Weather:SW 6, Moderate Sea, Good Visibility, Overcast with Showers At 23:44 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat be launched to assist the 34ft Motorboat Jenny with two persons onboard, which had dragged its anchor and run aground on St Mawes Beach. Portscatho Coastguard mobile was also tasked to assist. The All Weather Lifeboat left her berth at 23:55 and arrived on scene off the beach at 00:09. The motorboat lying broadside onto the wind and waves in the shallow water off the beach. The lifeboats Y-Boat was launched with crewmen Dave Nicoll and Andy Jenkins to assess the situation. Due to the shallow water and the numerous moorings it was impossible for the lifeboat to get close enough to tow the vessel off the beach, so the Y-Boat was used to fix lines from the vessel to an empty mooring off the beach. As the tide made the vessel was refloated and pulled clear of the beach at 02:13 using the Y-Boat and the lines which had been laid, eventually being safely placed on the mooring at 02:40. Once the boat had been checked over for any damage and water ingress, the Y-Boat returned to the lifeboat where it was safely recovered at 02:57. The Coastguard Mobile provided flood lighting and coffee throughout the recovery of the vessel, both of which were most appreciated. The All Weather Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 03:07, where it was ready for service by 03:28.
