Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat was already afloat assisting the Coastguard Cliff Team in the rescue of three people from a RIB, which had gone ashore, when at 18:10 Falmouth Coastguard requested that the Inshore Lifeboat proceed to assist the 36ft Motor Boat Jacobite, which had reported being broken down 1.5 miles South of Pendennis Point.

The Inshore Lifeboat arrived on scene at 18:15 and placed a lifeboatman onboard to assist with the establishment of the tow. By 18:18 the towline had been passed and made secure and the tow into Falmouth had commenced.

The motorboat was towed into the Inner Harbour where she was safely berthed alongside the Visitors Yacht Haven at 18:55. Once the casualtys details had been obtained the Inshore Lifeboat was released to return to station.

The Inshore Lifeboat was back on its slipway by 19:03 where it was refuelled, and was ready for service by 19:20.

The twin engined Hardy Motor Boat had been on passage from St Marys in the Isles of Scilly to Falmouth with two persons onboard when both its engines had failed. Despite various attempts to rectify what was believed to be a fuel contamination problem these proved unsuccessful so assistance had to be requested.
