At 19:38 Falmouth Coastguard requested that the Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched following a 999 call from a 20ft motor boat reporting that they were broken down and drifting at Sunny Corner which is just upstream of Malpas on the Truro River.

The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 19:44 arriving on scene at Sunny Corner at 19:59. Having gone alongside the boat to confirm all was well, the inshore lifeboat took the vessel in tow and safely placed it on its mooring 100 yards upstream at 20:25. Once they had obtained the casualties details and given then some general safety advise the inshore lifeboat was released to return to station at 20:35.

The Inshore Lifeboat was back on its slipway by 20:55 where it was refuelled, rehoused and was ready for service by 21:10.

The 20ft Motor Boat with four people onboard had broken down while heading up river, just short of their mooring. One of the crew had got into their dinghy with an outboard on it and had tried to tow the vessel the short distance to its mooring, but the dinghy had capsized throwing him into the water, being pulled out the water by the other they then called for assistance.
