Boat: Inshore Lifeboat Crew: Dave Nicoll (Helmsman), Oliver Lewis, Jonathan Hackwell Location: 2.5 miles South of Pendennis Point Shout Date: 10/05/2008 (All day) Weather:SE 3, Slight Sea & Swell, Very Poor Visibility with Thick Fog At 21:19 Falmouth Coastguard requested that the Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched following a request from Brixham Coastguard for assistance in a search at Dodman Point. Falmouths All Weather Lifeboat was already afloat on another service, and having taking into account the extremely poor visibility that was present due to thick fog it was decided that the Inshore Lifeboat should rendezvous with the All Weather Lifeboat and take over the escort of their casualty, allowing them to All Weather Lifeboat to proceed to the other incident. The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 21:24 and headed out to Governor Buoy to await the arrival of the lifeboat and casualty. At 21:48 the lifeboat and casualty came into view and the inshore lifeboat took up station astern of the lifeboat, the situation at the Dodman having been resolved. As both lifeboats were escorting the casualty into the harbour the all weather lifeboat was advised by Falmouth Coastguard that there was another vessel lost in the fog off Falmouth and once more details had been obtained that they would be retasked. At 22:12 the Brave Heart was safely moored at its berth in Pendennis Marina and the All Weather Lifeboat proceeded to assist the next casualty, while the Inshore Lifeboat obtained details from the skipper of the Brave Heart. The Inshore Lifeboat was back on its slipway by 22:20 where it was refuelled, rehoused and was ready for service by 22:40. The 25ft Motor Boat Brave Heart had been in Falmouth Bay when one of its engines had failed and it had then lost all power to its navigation equipment. In view of the very thick fog and the loss of one engine the skipper had wisely asked for assistance.
