At 11:20 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat be launched to evacuate a seaman from the Dutch Merchant Vessel Sereen (2,974 GRT), which was anchored in Falmouth Bay. The seaman was suffering from a fever and had taken medical advise from a doctor in the Netherlands who had recommended evacuation to hospital.

The All Weather Lifeboat left its pontoon berth at 11:30, and arrived alongside the vessel at 11:50. The casualty and a fellow crewman who was to act as interpreter were transferred to the lifeboat and taken back into Falmouth where an ambulance was waiting at the lifeboat station to transport them to Treliske Hospital.

It is believed the casualty was suffering from a kidney infection and was hospitalised.

The All Weather Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 12:20. The lifeboat was then refuelled, and was ready for service by 12:30.
