Boat: All Weather Lifeboat Crew: Mark Pollard (Coxswain), Peter Wood, David Proud, Snowy Angove, Alan Rowe, Phil Rogers, Andy Jenkin, Toni Partridge Location: Carrick Roads Shout Date: 29/08/2006 (All day) Weather:N 4, Slight Sea, Good Visibility, Sunny Periods At 19:24 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore and All Weather Lifeboat be launched following a report of an unconscious crew member onboard the Yacht Red Gauntlet following what was believed to have been a blow to the head. The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 19:28 and arrived alongside the Red Gauntlet at 19:31. The casualty was on the stern of the yacht and was conscious. Two lifeboat crew and medical equipment including oxygen was transferred to the yacht. An initial assessment of the casualty was made before the casualty was placed on oxygen and made as comfortable as possible, to await the arrival of the All Weather Lifeboat. The All Weather Lifeboat left its pontoon berth at 19:32 arriving on scene at 19:38. It was decided that the casualty should be transferred to the lifeboat and taken back to the lifeboat station where an Ambulance and Paramedics were waiting. The lifeboat was taken alongside the yacht and the casualty was transferred to the lifeboat before heading back to the station, where the casualty was handed into the care of the Paramedics at 19:45. The Inshore Lifeboat then towed the yacht back to its moorings so that the skipper and remainder of the crew could get ashore to alert the casualtys wife and arrange for transport to the hospital. The yacht was placed on its mooring in the harbour at 20:04, and the crew dropped ashore at Flushing Sailing Club. The Yacht had been taking part in the local Tuesday night racing when the boom had hit the casualty, causing him to lose his hat overboard. It was only a few minutes later that the casualty collapsed and fell down the companionway into the yachts cabin, lying unconscious for a few minutes. The skipper of the yacht wisely requested immediate assistance from the Coastguard. The All Weather Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 19:45. The lifeboat was then refuelled, and was ready for service by 19:55.
