Falmouth Severn class all weather lifeboat - RNLB Richard Cox Scott (17-29)

Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat was afloat as part of the Funchal 500 Tall Ships event when at 17:27 Falmouth Coastguard requested that the lifeboat proceed to carryout a medical evacuation of a crewman from the Cruise Ship Saga Ruby which was 6 miles South of Falmouth.

The All Weather Lifeboat arrived on scene at 17:52 and manoeuvred alongside the ship to allow the casualty and a nurse to be transferred to the lifeboat. Once they were onboard the lifeboat made best possible speed back into the harbour, taking into account the large number of vessels that were afloat. The casualty was landed at the lifeboat station pontoon at 18:35 where an ambulance and paramedics were waiting. The lifeboat then headed back out to sea to return the nurse to the cruise ship.

The All Weather Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 19:21 where it was then refueled, and was ready for service by 19:45.

The crewman from the Saga Ruby had been suffering a heart condition, which required hospitalisation. He had been accompanied ashore by the nurse who had been treating him to ensure his well being on the journey ashore and to allow her to update the ambulance crew on his medical history.
