At that time the vessel was 40 miles South and following a link call with the a Doctor at Queen Alexander Hospital in Portsmouth and it was confirmed that the casualty should be landed ashore for hospital treatment. The vessel was advised to divert to Falmouth and Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat be launch at 20:30 to rendezvous with the vessel off Falmouth. The All Weather Lifeboat left its berth at 20:35 and headed out into Falmouth Bay where she rendezvoused with the Porto Cervo at 21:15. A pilot boarded the ship, which then turned to give the lifeboat a lee to make the transfer easier. The casualty who was in pain but still able to walk was evacuated from the ships companion ladder at 21:57 and taken back to the lifeboat station where ambulance paramedics were waiting to transport the casualty to Treliske Hospital. The All Weather Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 22:15. The lifeboat was then refuelled, and was ready for service by 22:35.
