At 14:13 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched to assist two capsized Pico sailing dinghies and their occupants off Trefusis Point in the Carrick Roads.
The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 14:20 and headed out of the harbour arriving on scene off Trefusis Point at 14:24. One dinghy was located close by while the second one was about half a mile further out in the Carrick Roads. The occupant of the first dinghy was taken on board the inshore lifeboat before it headed to the second casualty whose sailor was also taken on board the lifeboat. The dinghy was then righted with some difficulty due to it being water logged, before being taken in tow and the Inshore Lifeboat then headed back to the first dinghy which was righted and also taken in tow. The dinghies and their occupants were taken back to the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club where the lifeboat crew helped in recovering the dinghies and gave their occupants safety advice before at 15:35 being released to return to its station.
The Inshore Lifeboat was recovered onto its slipway at 15:45 where the lifeboat was refuelled and made ready for service by 16:08.
The dinghies and their occupants belonged to the University Sailing Club and had been out for an afternoon sail when they had got into difficulties.
