Inshore lifeboat (Launched 20:52 / Returned 21:38) – Diane Bush (Helmsman), Tom Bird, Jake Ingleby
At 20:47 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched to assist the 10 metre yacht Snowbound with two persons on board into the harbour after it had suffered an engine failure.
The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 20:52 and arrived on scene off the West Narrows Buoy at 20:56. The yacht dropped its sails and was taken in tow by the Inshore Lifeboat which then took it to the Visitors Yacht Haven where the yacht was safely moored, the Inshore Lifeboat being released to return to its station at 21:32.
The Inshore Lifeboat was recovered onto its slipway at 21:38 where the lifeboat was refuelled and made ready for service by 21:50.
The yachts skipper had called the coastguard to advice of his engine problems and concerns about sailing into a harbour which he was unfamiliar with. The Coastguard consulted with the Lifeboat Operations Manager as the light was failing and there was no harbour patrol available so it was decided as a precaution to launch the Inshore Lifeboat to ensure the yachtsman made it into the harbour safely. The skipper and his crew were very grateful for the assistance he had received.
