Inshore lifeboat: (Launched 19:07 / Released 19:46) – Jonathan Hackwell (Helmsman), Jamie Wakefield, Tamara Brookes
At 18:59 Falmouth Coastguard requested the launch of Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat following a VHF call from another vessel reporting that a 6m sailing boat had broken down and was drifting at Turnaware Bar in the River Fal. The lifeboat crew were already at the lifeboat station preparing for an evening exercise.
The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 19:07 and arrived on scene at Turnaware Bar at 19:17. The sailing boat had been taken in tow by a nearby Rigid Inflatable so the Inshore Lifeboat stood by while the boat was towed to its swinging mooring off Loe Beach at 19:46, the Inshore Lifeboat being released to continue with its exercise.
The sailing boat had been rounding Turnaware Bar when its engine had failed and was in danger of being blown ashore. The two occupants had dropped their anchor and a nearby vessel had raised the alarm.
