Inshore lifeboat (Launched 21:52 / Returned 23:20) – Jonathan Hackwell (Helmsman), Neil Capper, Jamie Connoly
At 21:44 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched to assist the 7m Yacht Flash II which requested assistance off the entrance to Falmouth Harbour.
The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 21:52 and headed out to Pendennis Point where the yacht was believed to be. Initially there was no sign of the yacht but at 22:04 it was located 1 mile off the St Anthony Lighthouse. The yacht was taken in tow back to the Falmouth Haven in the inner harbour where it was safely moored 23:15, the Inshore Lifeboat being released to return to its station.
The Inshore Lifeboat was recovered onto its slipway at 23:20 where the lifeboat was refuelled and made ready for service by 23:35.
The yacht which had two persons on board had been on passage from Falmouth to Plymouth when it had experienced problems. The yachts’ rigging was faulty, its main halyard had become jammed meaning that they could not lower the mainsail and its outboard motor had failed.
