At 07:14 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched following a report from the Devon & Cornwall Police of a body in a dinghy off the Prince of Wales Pier in Falmouth Inner Harbour. The Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team, Police Units and Ambulance Paramedics were also tasked to assist.
The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 07:20 and headed up the harbour to Prince of Wales Pier arriving on scene at 07:24. The Inshore Lifeboat was initially tasked to carry out a search of the shoreline from Greenbank Quay to the pier and then on to Custom House Quay, before searching the shoreline from Kiln Quay to Little Falmouth in Flushing. Once completed the Inshore Lifeboat then returned to the pier where they assisted the Coastguard Team and Police in the recovery of the body. At 08:40 the Inshore Lifeboat was released to return to its station.
The Inshore Lifeboat was recovered onto its slipway at 08:50, being refuelled and ready for service by 09:00.
The casualty has been confirmed by the police to be a local man and the thoughts of the lifeboat crew are with his family and friends.
