At 16:20 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched to assist two Kayakers in difficulties between Pendennis Point and the Eastern Arm of the Docks. The supply launch Swallow also proceeded to assist.
The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 16:26 and headed out of the harbour arriving on scene near the Governor Buoy at 16:30. Both casualties and their kayaks had already been recovered onto the launch Swallow. A lifeboat crewmember was placed on board the launch to assess the casualties and one was found to be suffering from hypothermia. An ambulance was requested and it was decided to keep the casualty on board the launch while the Inshore Lifeboat escorted the vessel to the lifeboat station pontoon where the casualties were landed ashore at 16:52.
The Inshore Lifeboat was back on its slipway at 17:05 where it was refuelled, rehoused and ready for service by 17:20.
The two kayakers had launched from Swanpool and had been exploring the coastline when one of them had capsized. Being unable to get back on his craft the other kayaker had used his mobile phone to raise the alarm. The casualty was checked over by ambulance paramedics and was able to warm up in the lifeboat station while one of the lifeboat crew drove the other kayaker to Swanpool to collect his car. The kayaks were then loaded onto their car and both casualties headed home very grateful for all the assistance they had received
