Boat: All Weather Lifeboat Crew: Mark Pollard (Coxswain), David Proud, Snowy Angove, Alan Rowe, John Blakeston, Alistair Heane, Carl Beardmore, Toni Partridge, Jonathon Hackwell Location: Falmouth Harbour / Gyllyngvase Beach Shout Date: 19/10/2007 (All day) Weather:SE 4, Moderate Sea & Swell, Good Visibility, Partly Cloudy At 05:10 Falmouth Coastguard requested that the Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched following a call from the 32ft Ketch Talsabie reporting an incident onboard and advising that one of the crew was threatening to throw themselves overboard. The yacht with a father and son onboard was on passage from Milford Haven to Brixham via Falmouth but its exact location was unknown. The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 05:16 and commenced a search of the Inner Harbour and Falmouth Docks. The local pilot boat L K Mitchell was also asked to keep a lookout for the yacht. At 05:22 Falmouth Coastguard decided that in view of the uncertainty of the yachts location that the Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat should also be tasked to assist, the lifeboat leaving its pontoon berth to join the search at 05:31. Falmouth Coastguard Mobile was also tasked to assist. Further information including a rough GPS Position was obtained from the yacht at 05:35, which indicated that the vessel might be either in Falmouth Bay or the Helford River. Both lifeboats were retasked to search this area. Shortly afterwards VHF communications were established with the yacht which allowed the all weather lifeboat to use its VHF direction finding equipment to pin point the yachts position off Gyllyngvase Beach. The All Weather Lifeboat arrived on scene at 05:47 followed by the Inshore Lifeboat at 05:50. The inshore lifeboat put three lifeboat crew onboard the yacht to assess the situation. It was decided that the two occupants of the yacht should remain onboard while the all weather lifeboat took the yacht in tow for Falmouth. One of the crew was suffering from hallucinations while the other had a badly crushed finger, which had happened while he was trying to anchor the yacht. On entering the inner harbour the inshore lifeboat took over the tow. The All Weather Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 06:44 allowing the inshore lifeboat to place alongside the lifeboat at 06:52 where both occupants were transferred ashore to a waiting ambulance. The Inshore lifeboat then moved the yacht to the Port Pendennis Marina where it was safely secured. The All Weather Lifeboat was then refuelled, and was ready for service by 07:20.
